How much does a company's story influence its valuation?

That was the central question explored during the recent webinar, Connecting Narrative to Valuation, hosted by Actum that featured experts from Gateway Group, Pennant, and Canaccord Genuity.

While financial performance remains the foundation of valuation, the panel agreed that investors increasingly evaluate much more than the numbers.

"Investors aren't just buying financials. They are buying into a leadership vision,” said Gateway’s Managing Director of PR, Zach Kadletz.

He went on to explain how leadership credibility, strategic vision, and consistent execution all shape how the market perceives a company and its long-term potential.

A compelling story may attract investor interest, but companies that consistently deliver on their commitments build the trust and credibility that support stronger valuations over time. The best way to make sure investors and target audiences are aware your company is consistently achieving its goals, is through clear, consistent messaging from management, particularly CEOs. That plays a critical role in helping investors understand a company's strategy and growth opportunity.

Another major topic was the growing influence of retail investors. Unlike traditional institutional audiences, retail investors often engage with highly visual, digestible content across platforms like LinkedIn, Reddit and Stocktwits. Zach and the other panelists discussed why executive visibility, authentic communication, and simplified storytelling are becoming essential components of modern investor relations.

Finally, the panel examined the potential shift from quarterly to semi-annual reporting. While reporting requirements may evolve, the consensus was that companies cannot afford to go quiet between earnings cycles. Creating meaningful news moments, maintaining executive visibility and proactively engaging investors will remain essential to building long-term confidence.
